Stunning Sunrise
How can a daily moment be so intense
I have captured the moment the sun is peeking over the middle rooftop. There is just a hint of the orange glow.
Stunning Sunlight I just witnessed the most amazing thing! Standing at my kitchen window, I saw the smallest line of golden sun rising above my neighbor’s snowy rooftop. When had I last watched the sunrise? I can’t remember. When I looked again, it had doubled in size. It was a radiant arc of light. Could I watch longer? Since I am frozen in place by the winter cold, I can. I pull my mug of re-heated coffee from the microwave. I step back to the window in time to see the massive gold, shimmering bright sending light across the yard behind me. How amazing. This sun was rising on the right side of my window. A faint memory sees it rising on the left side. Interesting. Winter sun? Different placement. I am curious and happy to notice the change. Same fiery warmth on this below zero day. I turn around to see a new shadow above my countertop below the upper cabinets. What is it? I walk toward it and touch the handle of the lemonade dispenser. How? The sunshine is coming through my other window and hitting a different part of the kitchen. Something as daily as the sun coming up can have different angles? I walk to my living room and sit in my favorite chair. The view out my window faces the railroad tracks and my neighbors houses on the other side. I see the sunshine like a bright spotlight illuminating my neighbor’s house. The power of the early morning beam makes the house glow like a theater entrance. Now it is fading and returning as a warm cascade of burning coals. I return to the window and the power of the sun’s rays bounce off the snowy rooftops and rows and rows of snowy yards. I try to look at the sun and the force of the brilliance snaps my eyes shut and I turn away. I look to the lit sky and try to sneak a peek at the simmering orb, but it is too bright. I look at the clock and realize it has only been ten minutes from a slice of light to this blasting light of fire. I could tell it was above the roof, but it resulted in specks in my eyesight, like after a photo where a flash burns bright. My heart is lifted to have witnessed this morning transformation. This amazing beauty of starting the day in dark grey and unending snow and then see the brightness released. The air is 15 degrees below zero and yet the powerful, radiant sun has lifted her head and declared a new bright day has begun.

Thank you for writing about one of those wonderful miracles of daily life!
I get to do this every day now that I am retired. Love the line about "microwave warmed coffee". I do that all the time.
